Pantry moth control

Pantry moth control in the Barossa and Gawler

Insect Invasion does pantry moth control for homes and food businesses across the Barossa Valley and Gawler. We'll be straight with you: most of the fix is finding and throwing out the food the moths are breeding in. We help you track down the source, then treat the shelves, cracks and corners where the caterpillars go to pupate, so the moths stop coming back.

Pantry moths are small moths, about a centimetre long, that flutter around the kitchen in the evening. The adults don't eat your food; their caterpillars do. They live in flour, cereal, rice, pasta, nuts, dried fruit, spices, pet food and birdseed, and leave fine webbing and clumps in the packet. When they're fully grown they leave the food and crawl into the cracks, shelf joins and ceiling corners to turn into moths, which is why cleaning out the food alone doesn't always end it.

How we deal with pantry moths

  • Help finding the infested food, including the packets at the back and the pet food in the laundry
  • Advice on what to throw out and how to store the rest
  • Treatment of shelf edges, joins, cracks and corners once the pantry is cleared and cleaned, never the food
  • Kitchens, pantries and dry stores in homes and food businesses

What you can do today

  • Check every packet of grain, flour, nuts, dried fruit and pet food for webbing, clumps or caterpillars, and bin anything affected
  • Vacuum the shelves, joins and corners, then wipe them down
  • Keep dry food in airtight containers from now on

Food businesses

Cafés, bakeries, restaurants and food stores with dry goods can get pantry moths too, and they're the kind of thing an inspector notices. We can treat dry stores around your trading hours and include it in a written pest management plan. See our food and hospitality page.
